AFABW 2010 “Call For Mail Art”
January 10, 2010 – Hollywood: Artists For A Better World International is calling upon global artists to send their mail art to AFABW by July 13, 2010. This mail art campaign honors artists as well as the establishment of an international holiday for the arts, referred to as “ART DAY,” which is celebrated on the second Friday in each August. (This year’s 12th annual Art Day falls on August 13, 2010).
“Mail Art” includes hand-decorated postcards, cards and/or envelopes that are sent through global postal services.
What does Mail Art look like? As the artist, you decide. Mail Art is essentially art using the postal service as the medium.
Founder of the Art Day holiday, Becky Mate says “Mail Art can be sent to anyone, and is all about opening your mail and finding a postcard from an artist. It is friendly, compact, instant joy.” Additionally, she encourages all to send their mail art to AFABW by July 13, 2010.

Hi Erik,
Yes! The festival is completed and the compilation and editing of the photos and videos as well as the writing of the press releases are being coordinated and produced by volunteers, which will include the 2010 mail art selections. Over the next few weeks all the media and press releases will be completed and published, along with the Mail Art. Thanks for your patience!
GA
PS: We can always use more volunteer help. :-)
Hi again.
Any chance at finding out the selections from the Art Mail this year??
thanks!
Erik
Well, i got the latest ArtLine Newsletter and there is nothing in it about ArtDay (that i could find!) Any thoughts?
thanks,
Erik
Another good question, Erik!
All the the great Mail Art that has been received is still being evaluated. The best way to find out which 2010 Mail Art has been selected is to be sure you are subscribed to the ART LINE newsletter (sign up top-right for free).
when might we find out what art was chosen to be featured on the site?
thanks!
Erik
Great idea Becky! You are lucky to be on the receiving end of all that creativity.
I will send mine out tomorrow.
Best, Kathy
That’s a great question, Erik!
Although Mail Art is often sent to others without expectation of its return, I’m not aware of any rule that says it has to be that way! Besides, we have seen some fabulous creations that “should” be returned so that others may further benefit from it. If you (or anyone else) wish to have your mail art returned, just include a self-addressed stamped envelope with a note requesting the return of the art, and it will be done!
Question, will the art be returned to the artists?
thanks,
Erik
Hi Proski,
Whether you wish to send mail art via a single postcard or artwork enclosed in a letter is up to you.
Is it better to send a postcard or art in an envelope?

Hi Sandra,
Images on a CD won’t be reviewed as Mail Art. But you are welcome to print an image on a greeting card if you wish. See “Point 3″ in the article above for selection criteria.
The artists that wan last year have different styles, what is the criteria for the selection, what should I submit, a printed image on a greeting card or a cd with images?
Thank you,
Sandra Zebi
