About Artists For A Better World International

AFABW180Founded in 1997 by Barbara Cordova Oliver,  Artists For A Better World International (AFABW) is a network of worldwide artists uniting to make a difference in society.

The group is open to artists and art enthusiasts of all religions, nationalities, creeds, races and cultures who share our beliefs:

  • We believe in a world where good morals are valued.
  • We favor art that inspires and helps make the world a better place.
  • We support artistic and social improvement programs that are making positive changes in society.

Barbara was inspired to start the group after studying the works of L. Ron Hubbard who states;

“The artist has an enormous role in the enhancement of today’s and creation of tomorrow’s reality. He operates in a rank in advance of science as to the necessities and requirements of man. The elevation of a culture can be measured directly by the numbers of its people working in the field of aesthetics.”

“A culture is only as great as its dreams and its dreams are dreamed by artists.”

By uplifting the culture through aesthetics, by raising the awareness of artists and others about the power the artist has in creating a better world, and by working with and supporting top social betterment organizations, AFABW and its members are inspiring and making positive changes in the world.

We accomplish our aims by cultivating participation in constructive, inspirational and creative projects as well as working hand-in-hand with community advancement programs.

There is a considerable amount of teamwork by volunteers to pull off the many projects and events the group has produced.

AFABW has created music CDs, poetry anthologies, short story books, visual art calendars and other collaborative projects that include artists from around the globe.

In 1998 AFABW member Becky Mate established an official  Holiday For the Arts, called ART DAY, which now coincides with World Art Day and is celebrated on April 15th in honor of Leonardo Da Vinci’s birth date.

AFABW has had regular events at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International, in Hollywood, California, and at affiliated Scientology organizations in Los Angeles and around the world. This includes Boston, MA; Toronto, Canada; London, England; and Johannesburg, South Africa. There have also been many events in global communities with allied organizations. The group includes members of the Church as well as artists and art enthusiasts of goodwill from all religions, nationalities, creeds, races and cultures. In short, any and all who desire to help in the creation of a better world.

AFABW welcomes ideas and suggestions from any and all artists, art enthusiasts and social betterment groups about ways we can work together.
