AFABW Int Holiday Party and 2008 Calendar Launch

December 17, 2007: Hollywood, CA – Tonight, Artists For A Better World International held their annual end-of-the-year Holiday Celebration in the Garden Pavilion at Celebrity Centre International, replete with music, food, a dance performance, poetry reading, commendations, holiday caroling, and the launch of the 2008 AFABW Int Fine Art Calendar.
AFABW Int President, George Alger, was the master-of-ceremonies for the evening and also presented the new 2008 AFABW Int Fine Art Calendar, which was produced by Jerry Keane and Petrina Sharp, and features the artworks of 12 fine artists selected from submissions earlier in the year.
Musical performances were presented by pianist and songwriter, Jason Farnum; singer/songwriter, Deedee O’Malley; recording artist and Mercedes York.
An inspiring poetry reading was presented by Sunja Ackerman. Vanessa Guerrero (photo bottom right) delighted the audience with her distinctive dance performance that has been performed on both sides of the Atlantic.
Holiday carols were sung by the Scientology Choir Holiday Carolers to mark the spirit of the season, and certificates of commendation acknowledged the volunteers who helped create this year’s AFABW Arts Festival, Awards Event & Concert, as well as those who helped to create the AFABW Int Poetry Anthology, AFABW Int Short Story Compilation books, and this year’s calendar.
Speakers included Art Day Founder and AFABW Int member, Becky Mate, presented the progress towards creating an international holiday for the arts, designated as the second Friday of each August. AFABW Int fine artist, Lura Schmiedeke, shared her career successes that have been attendant with her study of the Scientology basic books at Celebrity Centre International, and encouraged others to do the same.
In addition to releasing the 2008 Fine Art Calendar, AFABW Int President George Alger also summarized the launches of this year’s poetry compilation book and short story anthology. Further, he noted that 2008 would include the largest amount of AFABW Int projects for one year that the group has yet endeavored, and stated, “This means even more opportunities for global artists to publish their poetry, stories, music and fine art.”
Artists For A Better World International is dedicated to building a worldwide network of artists who share a vision of creating a better world through aesthetics and is open to artists and art enthusiasts of all religions, nationalities, creeds, races and cultures. AFABW activities include art and social betterment projects and/or events conceived to foster heightened awareness with and through art and artists, to help build a better world through aesthetics.
