AFABW New England Hosts Concert for Human Rights

June 4, 2006 – Boston: In collaboration with Kelly Riley, Director of Youth for Human Rights, New England AFABW members produced an event to introduce the universal Declaration of Human Rights to the city of Boston.

Despite the day’s drizzly weather, an impressive list of talented artists came out in support of this important cause. In addition to Kelly Riley, Ksenia Mack, Jen Truesdale, 7th Child, and the John Cate Band, others such as JADA, Kieran Jordan & Paddy League—Irish Dance and Music, and the Sam Hooper Group performed as Boston residents and tourists gathered in appreciation. Especially well received was Sinha Capoeira, a Brazilian martial arts troupe from Somerville which performed an intricate dance involving singing and clapping, accompanied by a tambourine and drum.

The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of the Declaration of Human Rights, as well as social betterment organizations founded by L. Ron Hubbard, including the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, the Association for Better Living and Education, Narconon, The Way To Happiness, and others, and of course, Youth For Human Rights.

Fittingly, the concert began with Sharon Shenkar singing our national anthem, “…For the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Students of all ages from the Boston area took turns reading each precept of the declaration to the crowd. The response was wonderful and moving.
