AFABW Int Playwriting Contest Winners

July 1, 2003 – Hollywood, CA: Artists For A Better World International (AFABW Int) announced the first “Plays For A Better World” Playwriting Contest winners!

Starting on March 6, 2003, AFABW Int called on playwrights around the world to submit plays for an AFABW Int Playwriting Contest, themed “Man’s Greatness.”

The Grand Finalist stage play winner has been selected through a competitive and detailed submission process.

Artists For A Better World International is a membership and social betterment organization dedicated to building a worldwide network of artists who share a vision of creating a better world through aesthetics.

The contest was open to artists and art enthusiasts of all religions, nationalities, creeds, races and cultures. In short, any and all who desire to help in the creation of a better world.

CONGRATULATIONS! Today, we wish to announce and congratulate the three finalists of the 2003 contest!

  • Grand Finalist: “GLASS WALLS” written by Dallas Dorsett of Los Angeles, CA.
  • Second Place Finalist: “REQUIEM – THE PLAY” written by Chris Dresser of Gauteng, South Africa.
  • Third Place Finalist: “I START AT A” written by Anh Lottman of Monrovia, CA.

About the Authors and Plays

Dallas Dorsett lives in Hollywood, CA. Ms. Dorsett has a BFA Fine Art from the University of Oklahoma. Her education is extensive and well-rounded in that she has studied Cinematography, Graphic Design, Music Composition, Sculpture, Photography and Business Management at such prestigious schools as the School of Visual Arts in NY, SF Art Institute Grad School, George Washington Univ Grad School, DC, and the US Dept of Agriculture Grad School. She has written and had performed numerous one act and full length plays, as well as written and produced a number of short films. Her other writings include an original TV series, many movie features, and thirty original songs. GLASS WALLS is a delightful and meaningful play about – not just a dysfunctional family – but a family of dysfunctional people, who learn that unconditional love and acceptance can bring calm, meaning and even a bit of sanity to one’s life. GLASS WALLS will be performed September 16th, 2003, during the AFABW Arts Festival in Hollywood, California.

Chris Dresser lives near Johannesburg, South Africa, and is an award winning film writer, director and producer. He has written twenty-four screenplays (optioned or sold), five of which have been produced as features. Also, eleven drama series, about 300 documentaries, corporate videos, training and motivational films. Mr. Dresser has six International Awards for writing/directing, including the Theodore Roosevelt Award for best travel film of 1984. He was also the National Chairman of the South African Scriptwriter Association in 1985/86. Requiem – The Play, is a quirky, twisty piece of unique theatre that entertains with mystery and drama, while demonstrating the characters’ qualities of personal integrity, persistence and the great sacrifices some will go through for the integrity of love.

Anh Lottman lives in Monrovia, CA. Ms. Lottman graduated from USC as a Master of Professional Writing, in May of 2003. She is also degreed in English, History, the Liberal Arts, and has studied and written for the East West Players. She has worked as a teacher, a grant writer, and a journalist. I Start at A is a uniquely staged fairy tale about the value of first being true to one’s self.
