Operation Help: Mail Art for 9/11
Sept 23, 2001 – Hollywood: “Operation Help” was featured throughout the past eight days as part of the AFABW Int “Joy Of Creating” International Arts Festival. Hundreds of positive, inspirational cards were created by young and old alike, with pencils, crayons, paints and individual caring.
Inspirational messages were written in English, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese. These are being sent to the emergency workers in NYC and Washington, DC as a show of inspiration and support.
Following are some of the messages:
- “To the firemen, from a fireman’s daughter and family.”
- “One heart, lots of love.”
- “U showed us.”
- “We love you, New York.”
Founder of Artists For A Better World International, Jeannette Hay, initiated the project as a gesture for individuals on the opposite side of the nation to express their support for those at the epicenter of 9/11. “Operation Help was intended as an outlet for individuals to express their compassion and gratitude, sending a message of hope and encouragement to those risking their lives to help others affected by the 9/11 attacks.”
George Alger, President of AFABW Int said, “Like millions of others throughout the world, we are reeling from the tragedy in NYC and DC. This is a way that some of us can express our support for those first responders.”
